Mr. Sturtz began his career in the construction industry in 1965 as a framing carpenter and continued this work while attending Ball State University and Purdue University to study Architectural Design and Structural Engineering. He began his professional career as a construction superintendent and designer for multi-family and resort communities in Indiana, North Carolina, and Mississippi. Pursuing a more independent career path, Mr. Sturtz formed Design Woodworking, Inc. in 1980 where he continued his involvement in residential and commercial projects by providing framing, interior trim, custom cabinetry and custom furniture production, along with design and general contracting services.

Furthering his career, in 1988 Mr. Sturtz became a partner in Crews & Sturtz, Inc. providing design and contracting services for light commercial and luxury residential clients. In 2001 he began designing the corporate headquarters for Pedcor Companies in Carmel, Indiana. This project became known as Pedcor Square. Crews & Sturtz, Inc. served as the general contractor of the first three buildings of this project. In 2004 Mr. Sturtz joined Pedcor as President of the newly organized Pedcor Design Group. Once accepting his position with Pedcor, Mr. Sturtz renounced his partnership with Crews & Sturtz, Inc. and began the dissolution of Design Woodworking, Inc.

Mr. Sturtz and his wife Kris have three daughters; Kasey, Shelby and Jody. He has been involved in youth athletics as a coach for football, baseball, and soccer. Mr. Sturtz is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. He has focused on Christian Education and Mission by collaborating with the Second Presbyterian Church in building numerous houses with Habitat for Humanity in Indianapolis, Indiana and surgical facilities in Eldoret, Kenya. Mr. Sturtz also teaches youth and adult Christian education and Vacation Bible School.
