James S. Birge, Outside Investor & Counsel. Mr. Birge is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan School of Law. He is currently a partner with the Indianapolis based law firm of Baker & Daniels and concentrates his practice advising clients on a variety of corporate transactions and economic incentive programs, and he chairs the firm's advanced manufacturing, transportation and logistics practice group. Prior to returning to Baker & Daniels, Mr. Birge served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Joseph E. Kernan, where he worked on economic development and government reform issues. He has experience representing public and private companies, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups. His areas of focus include: advising clients in connection with seed and venture capital investments, mezzanine financing and commercial credit facilities; representing buyers and sellers in acquisitions, mergers, and other business combinations; and counseling emerging businesses regarding formation, employment issues, equity structure, licensing and intellectual property matters, and acquiring investments.
Mr. Birge currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and the Caleb Mills Organization.
